Update Details

We've released a major update to "Reading Aloud Reader," an app that reads Markdown aloud.

📄 Now supports PDF and EPUB

We've added PDF and EPUB to the supported formats, which previously only included Markdown.

PDF: Automatically infers headings and paragraphs from character position and size to reconstruct content for easier reading. For scanned PDFs without text information (image-only pages), we use the browser's built-in OCR to extract text on the spot. For sections where recognition accuracy is judged to be low, we clearly display a note to that effect (we wanted to avoid the "seems to be readable somehow" situation).
EPUB: Loads while preserving chapter structure and displays illustrations as-is.

Both formats are processed entirely within the browser without sending anything to a server.

No need to struggle with the seek bar to find your position—just click the sentence you want to read, and playback starts from there.

🔖 Auto-resume from where you left off (Bookmarks)

Your reading position is automatically saved. When you open the same document again, you can "resume from where you left off."

😴 Sleep Timer / 🌗 Dark Mode / Font Size Adjustment

We've added a sleep timer for those who listen before bed. You can now also adjust dark mode, font size, line spacing, and text width.

🔑 ElevenLabs now uses your own API key

The ElevenLabs engine, which provides high-quality voices, previously allowed anyone to use a shared key provided by the operator. However, due to specification changes on ElevenLabs' end, the previous method no longer works. We've switched to a system where users enter their own API key in the settings screen (the key is saved only in your browser and is not sent externally). We apologize for any inconvenience.

You can continue using the browser's built-in text-to-speech engine as before.

📜 Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

We've added a privacy policy that clearly states what data goes where (and where it doesn't), as well as terms of service.

This app is designed for situations where you want to read but don't have time to look at the screen. Starting today, try "listening to" PDF papers and documents, as well as EPUB books.

Markdownを読み上げるアプリ「読み上げリーダー」に、大型アップデートを行いました。

📄 PDF・EPUBが読めるようになりました

これまでMarkdownだけだった対応フォーマットに、PDFとEPUBを追加しました。

PDF: 文字の位置や大きさから見出し・段落を自動で推測して読みやすく再構成。文字情報のないスキャンPDF（画像だけのページ）は、ブラウザ内蔵のOCRでその場で文字を読み取ります。認識精度が低いと判断した箇所には、その旨をきちんと注釈表示します（「なんとなく読めてるっぽい」を避けたかったので）
EPUB: 章立てのまま読み込み、挿絵もそのまま表示

どちらもサーバーには一切送信せず、すべてブラウザの中だけで処理しています。

🎯 本文をクリックしたら、そこから読み上げ開始

シークバーで頑張って位置を合わせなくても、読みたい文をクリックするだけで、そこから読み上げが始まるようにしました。

🔖 続きから自動再生（しおり）

読んでいた位置を自動保存。同じ文書をもう一度開くと「続きから再生」できます。

😴 スリープタイマー / 🌗 ダークモード / 文字サイズ調整

寝る前に聞きながら使う方向けにスリープタイマーを追加。ダークモードや、文字サイズ・行間・本文幅の調整もできるようになりました。

🔑 ElevenLabsは、ご自身のAPIキーでご利用いただく方式に変更

高品質な音声が使えるElevenLabsエンジンは、これまで運営者が用意した共通キーで誰でも使えるようにしていましたが、ElevenLabs側仕様変更によりこれまでの方式が引っかかるようになってしまったため、利用者ご自身のAPIキーを設定画面に入力する方式に変更しました（キーはご本人のブラウザにのみ保存され、外部には送信されません）。ご不便をおかけしますが、ご了承ください。

ブラウザの読み上げエンジンを使った読み上げは今まで通りお使いいただけます。

📜 プライバシーポリシー・利用規約を整備

どんなデータがどこに送られる（送られない）のかを明記したプライバシーポリシーと、利用規約を追加しました。

読みたいけど画面を見る時間がない、というシーンに向けたアプリです。PDFの論文や資料、EPUBの本も、今日から「聞く」対象にしてみてください。
