Phone face-up on the floor counts your push ups from the shadow, out loud.
Counting reps in your head while holding a plank is a good way to lose your form. Pushup Counter hands that job to the phone: lay it face up on the floor under your chest, and its built-in light sensor picks up the shadow your body casts each time you go down. It uses no camera and asks for no permissions, and it counts out loud, so you never have to look at the screen. I'm DKsequence, a solo developer.
There are open, goal and sets modes, so you can set a target number of reps, how many sets, and a rest timer between them. A "ding" on the way down tells you the depth was registered, and today's reps, your streak, best set and a last-7-days graph are stored on your phone.
To get the best count, put the top edge of the phone, where the sensor is, under your chest, and use it somewhere that isn't too dark. Warm up first and stop if you feel pain.
