The "Negative Thought Spiral" That Troubles Me
I am a person with developmental disabilities who has been diagnosed with ADHD/ASD.
In particular, my "abstract" IQ is extremely low, and I have a characteristic difficulty in understanding things like "other people's inner thoughts" and "my own future"—things that don't currently have a concrete form.
What I struggle with most is "understanding others' inner thoughts."
From the slightest trigger, I become gripped by fear: "Maybe they're angry with me" or "Maybe they hate me."
Even when I haven't actually experienced being scolded or disliked, since I can only fill in the gaps with imagination, my negative thoughts keep spiraling and expanding.
For me, people whose emotions I cannot read are nothing but objects of fear.
What I Gained from Counseling
So I decided to try counseling.
I hoped to receive some coping strategies or advice.
As a result, I gained an important insight: in my mind, "facts" and "thoughts" have become fused together.
For example, when someone doesn't respond to my greeting. I directly jump to "I was ignored" or "Maybe they hate me" and feel fear—this happens because the fact that "they didn't respond" has become fused with the "thought" that "maybe I was ignored."
So the advice I received was: first, I should learn to distinguish in my own mind between what is "fact" and what is merely "thought."
AI's Strength in "Extracting Facts"
And this is where AI comes in.
At first, I was working through the separation of facts and thoughts through dialogue with AI.
AI calmly extracted the "facts" and pointed out what was merely "thought."
The initial motivation for development was the idea: what if I could make this more user-friendly, and create something that everyone struggling with similar worries could use?
